China SPOs participated in BIOFACH Shanghai 2018
China SPOs participated the BIOFACH Shanghai 2018 to promote and mainstream Fairtrade among the key players of organic food development who are more likely to accept and embrace Fairtrade. The objective was to enable SPOs to better understand who the key players of organic food are and to explore the potential partners for SPOs to increase the market opportunities of Fairtrade producers and to better understand the requirement and features of the niche market for Fairtrade and organic food. Hongkong FMO and FT New Zealand also joined China SPOs to participate in the event.
All 9 SPOs which attend the event had an opportunity to better understand the key players of organic food development in China, how they operate and what kind of products they are looking for. The participants also had an overall picture of the organic food chain, who the key players are, e.g., purchaser, consumer, certification body.
After this event, it is understood that more campaign, outreach and awareness raising activities should be carried out in China. The middle class in China is growing very fast and with strong purchasing power, including the huge potential for ethic market, the potential for Fairtrade to grow in China is immense.
A quick evaluation of the effectiveness of this event was carried out at the end of the event to assess the effectiveness of the event. Participants shared that the event was very interesting through which they got the opportunity to meet many people who are interested in Fairtrade products and they got an opportunity to learn more about organic food development in China.
